High School Entrance Tests

It’s difficult for middle-schoolers to ace a bubble test when they are just trying to navigate the social politics of the cafeteria. But as you well know, your child has just one shot to outscore hundreds, if not thousands, of other students to get into New York City’s elite public and private high schools. How can you help him best perform? With one-on-one test preparation.

Similar to our SAT/ACT preparation, we give diagnostic tests to determine areas of strength, weakness, and natural problem-solving preferences. We have a curriculum for each section of the test to teach material students don’t know. We organize our tutoring sessions according to the order in which a student will take the tests and use overlap between the tests to our advantage. Ultimately, we send our students to the test with a solid gameplan that instills confidence.

It’s a one-size-fits-one-student approach.

Who is it for?

Test preparation can help any student, regardless of the performance level at which he starts. We can help students learn material on the math sections of the test that they have not yet seen in school. We also teach them how to solve logic problems, arrange sentences into logical paragraphs, and write a persuasive and organized essay during a test. Keep in mind that these elite schools are looking for excellence. So, if a student is already a math whiz, we will not only shore up the verbal sections but also make sure the student knows how to do the most difficult math questions.

Students taking SHSAT (Specialized High Schools Admissions Test), ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam), CO-OP (Cooperative Admissions Examination Program), SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test), CHSE (Catholic High School Entrance Exam).

When and how much?

We typically recommend a minimum of 10 sessions prior to the test date. Generally speaking, this means starting right around Labor Day when school starts. Students can come over the summer for a more concentrated course, but most come once a week during the school year up until the test date.

We have sessions available during the school day (for students within walking distance), after school until 7:30, and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 5:00. Fees vary with the service. Please call for more details at 718-935-0400 or email us here.
